The Benefits of Cherries
It’s cherry season and the benefits of cherries are great! I hope you’ve been enjoying nature’s candy! Health Coach Kristen here sharing about one of my favorite fruits! As a health coach and lover of real food, I grab at least one bag of cherries almost every trip to the grocery store during this time of year. Not only is this fruit tasty, but there are also many real health benefits to cherries. Read on for the cherry deets.
Cherries Pack a Vitamin Punch
Cherries are a medicinal powerhouse providing vitamins A, C, E, and minerals zinc, potassium, iron, and manganese. The dark red coloring is super nourishing to the liver.
Eat Cherries to Decrease Inflammation
Cherries are high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. This makes them excellent for people suffering from autoimmune issues such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, lupus, Lyme disease, arthritis, gout, as well as healing from sports injuries.
Cherries Help You Concentrate
Cherries are also brain-food that strengthen cognitive function, and help improve memory, focus, concentration, and brain fog.
Decrease Anxiety and Sleep Better
Cherries are a great source of melatonin. They help calm the nervous system, decrease irritability, relieve neurosis, ease headache conditions, and promote a balanced sleep-wake cycle. The soothing effect on the brain’s neurons is wonderful for those with insomnia, or those that have high amounts of anxiety and stress in their lives.
Tips on Buying Cherries
When shopping for your next bag of this sweet treat, stay mindful of the two things listed below.
Cherries are heavily sprayed with pesticides and are #8 on the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen list. It’s best to buy organic if you can.
When fresh cherries aren’t available, frozen cherries and tart cherry juice are other ways to keep cherries in your life all year long. Add them to smoothies or make a tasty mocktail or spritzer.
If you don’t typically pick up cherries at the grocer or farmer’s market, there is no better time to try them then right now! Feel confident in your decision to be one step closer to your wellness when choosing real food for you and your family.
