How to set and hit your goals

by | Dec 29, 2022 | Blog, Fitness & Wellness, Mind & Soul

You become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams, by writing them down on a daily basis according to a study published by Gail Matthews of the Dominican University of California.

How to set and hit your goals

Goal setting involves the development of an action plan designed in order to motivate and guide a person or group toward a goal. Goals are more deliberate than desires and momentary intentions. Therefore, setting goals means that a person has committed thought, emotion, and behavior toward attaining the goal.

All goals are not equal

Keep in mind, not all goals are created equal. Simply telling yourself that you want to become a published author doesn’t mean much yet. But when you write down your goal, things start happening. SMART Goals and planning will help you reach your goals.

S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Specific – Get really clear with your goal. There should be no gray area with this goal. If you aren’t crystal clear with the goal, try again.

Measurable- Specificity is a solid start, but quantifying your goals (that is, making sure they’re measurable) makes it easier to track progress and know when you’ve reached the finish line.

Achievable- Your goals should be realistic — not an audacious goal but one you can actually make happen. Ask yourself: is your objective something you can reasonably accomplish?

Relevant- Think about the big picture. Why are you actually setting the goal that you’re setting?

Time-bound- Your goals should have time-related parameters built in, so you know how to stay on track within a designated time frame.

Writing your goals makes a big difference

Less than 3% of Americans write down their goals and less than 1% work on them daily by reviewing and, if necessary, rewriting them, according to Brian Tracy

In Dr. Gail Matthews’s study, 61% of goals that were written down were achieved. The percentage increases when you verbally share your goal with someone. It’s also worth noting that in 90% of studies, setting SMART goals led to much better results

Ambiguity is the enemy of  accomplishment.
